How to add capabilities to users in WordPress
We all know WordPress has the functionality to add multiple users from admin to contributors. But WordPress has set default capabilities for each user, and the user’s roles are defined as well. It is a known fact that all the platform as a whole offers immense customizability. But using a plugin, you can extend the user capabilities and also add a new user role. On this blog, I will show you how you can add skills to users in WordPress. 
Step 1: To add capabilities to users in WordPress; first, you need to get to the backend of your WordPress website. To able do that you need to type /wp-admin after your website’s URL. If your site is www.example.com the, you need to type the URL like this www.example.com/wp-admin. This will take you to any WordPress websites backend.

Step 2: You need to enter the backend of your website using admin credentials. There are different user role in WordPress, like admin, editor, contributor, and so on. You need to log in with your admin user id or any user who has admin access. This is an absolute must as you need to install a plugin to be able to do that. Only the admin has access over adding new functionality on a website.

Step 3: So first, we will install a plugin, which is the Capability Manager. To do that you need to click on the plugin tab. The plugin tab has all the plugins you have installed on your WordPress website. To add a new one, you need to click on this tab.

Step 4: Once you click on the plugin tab, you will find a button called Add New at the top. You need to click on this tab to add a new plugin.

Step 5: You need to search for a plugin which is capability manager. Type capability manager on the search tab and install and activate the plugin. It usually takes two to three minutes to install and activate the plugin. I have already installed the plugin.

Step 6: On your dashboard, you will find a tab called user. This tab has all the information about the users who are registered on the WordPress website. Click on the user tab.

Step 7: Under the user tab, you will find a new tab which will be enabled once you activate the plugin. Click on capabilities.

Step 8: The new window will show a list of capabilities which you can add to the current user. You click on click on the box next to each capability.

Step 9: Once you are done, click on the Save changes. This will add the capabilities to the current user you are logged in.

Step 10: You can also create a new role in this window. Click on a new role and add the name of the role and click on create.
