How to change the default search URL slug in WordPress
The URL slug plays an important part in your contents SEO. URL slug is the part of your URL which comes after the domain name. To make the URL slug user-friendly you need to keep the slug as short as possible without affecting the meaningfulness. WordPress sets a default URL slug for each page or post you publish on your website accordance with the page or post title. But you can always change the default URL slug with the Yoast SEO plugin.
Step 1: To change the default URL slug in WordPress first, you need to go to your website’s backend or for WordPress; it’s known as wp-admin. Wp-admin is the universal login for WordPress website. Suppose your website is www.example.com then you need to type the URL as  www.example.com/wp-admin.

Step 2: After you log in, you will land on your dashboard. Now you have to make sure that you log in as admin. It is essential to log in as admin. The admin can assess all the information on the WordPress website, including adding or removing any functionality. We will change the slug with the help of a plugin.

Step 3: On your dashboard, you will see a  tab called Plugins. This tab has all the plugins you install on your website. To install any new plugin, you also have to do it on this tab. As I said we will do it with Yoast SEO which is a popular plugin in WordPress for SEO.

Step 4: On the new window you will find an option called Add New. To add a new plugin you need to click on add new.

Step 5: A new window will open up and you will see some featured plugins. You have to search for the plugin on the search bar. Type Yoast SEO on the search bar and install the plugin. As you can see I have just updated the plugin the process is the same for installing just you need to activate the plugin which takes 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 6: I will show you how you can change the URL slug of a post. To able to do that you need to click on the posts tab. This tab has all the posts you have published on your website. Click on posts.

Step 7: Now you have to select the post which you want to change the URL slug. You must do it when you are publishing a blog or any posts. I have some posts drafted I will show you with that draft post. Just simply click on the post.

Step 8: The new page will take you to the backend of your post. After you activate the plugin you will find SEO options for the post. There is a separate section called snippet preview. Click on snippet preview.

Step 9: Under the SEO title you will find a section called slug. Type your prefered slug on the shown section. Make sure they are not too long or too short.
