As a writer, not all of your blog posts will be great or engaging as you think those will be. You may have written a blog which maybe needs more editing, or you may need to update a few information, but still, you want those on your site. Many users will visit your website and search for contents, and you always need to hide the posts which you don’t want users to read. On this blog, I will show you how you can exclude a specific post from WordPress search.
Step 1: To exclude a specific post from WordPress search first, you need to do is log in to your WordPress account. To be able to do that you need to go to your website’s backend, and for WordPress, it is known as wp-admin. You need to place /wp-admin after the URL of your website. For example, if your website is www.example.com, the backend URL would be www.example.com/wp-admin.
Step 2: Now you need to log in as admin. There are different users which you can add to your WordPress website like Administrator, Editor, Contributors, and so on. When you want to exclude a specific post from WordPress searches, its essential that you login with your admin account or use any user which has administrative access. Only the admin has access over all the contents on your WordPress site.
Step 3: When we are talking about excluding a specific post from WordPress search, we meant by using a plugin. As we all know, WordPress is a plugin-based platform. You need to install a plugin which is called ‘Exclude Search’. Click on the plugin tab to install a plugin.
Step 4: After you click on the plugin tab, you will find a button at the top of the screen, which says ‘Add New’. To install a new plugin, you need to click on ‘Add New’.
Step 5: On the add plugin section, you will find a search option from where you can search for a plugin. On the search bar type ‘Exclude Search’. You need to install and activate the plugin.
Step 6: As I mentioned, we are trying to exclude a specific post from the search. You need to click on the posts tab, which is just under the home tab on your WordPress Dashboard.
Step 7: On the post tab, you will find all the posts you have published on your WordPress site. To exclude any post, you need to select it by clicking on the post.
Step 8: Once you click on the post, it will take you to the backend of the post. After you activate the plugin, you will find a new option under the tags and category section, which is search excluded. You need to click on search exclude by clicking on the box.
Step 9: Once you have selected the post and enable the exclude search scroll up and update the post by clicking on the update button. This will update the blog post and eliminate it from the WordPress search.
For SEO, you should not exclude any post from the search option, but it’s better to hide awful content than let the user read it. If you have any more queries, let us know in the comment section.
